4th Annual International Congress on Roman Bioarchaeology
31 August-2 September 2025 in Zagreb, Croatia (Hybrid)
We are pleased to announce that the fourth meeting of the International Congress on Roman Bioarchaeology will take place in a hybrid format, through the Institute for Anthropological Research at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, Croatia.
The aim of the conference is to provide an international forum for scholars working on sites and populations across the Roman Empire and its territories to gather and share their research. In 2025, ICORB seeks to promote interdisciplinary approaches to the study of the Roman world. Therefore, we are inviting contributions from different sub-fields of bioarchaeology, including zooarchaeology, archaeobotany (macro and micro remains) and human osteoarchaeology. Proceedings from the conference will be published as a Special Issue of the Journal of Bioanthropology.
For this conference, we are especially interested in highlighting stories of historically marginalized people in the archaeological record, including women, children, elderly, enslaved individuals, rural communities, and peripheral populations. We welcome presentations focused on any area of the Empire, the imperial limes, and imperial boundaries.
If you would like to be considered for an in-person or virtual 15-minute podium presentation or poster, you may upload your abstract (max 300 words) with the following information:
- Title
- Names of authors
- Institutional affiliation
- 4 keywords for your presentation
Please submit your abstract through the ICORB website: www.icorb.org. The abstract submission portal opens April 21st. The general registration portal for non-presenters will open later this year.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at teamicorb@gmail.com.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Zagreb!
